For Starbucks' Premium Select Collection, I was encouraged to break the mold, to create bold packaging that stood out on-shelf as a more fun and elevated than the core Starbucks coffee line. Using the origins of the beans as inspiration, I used the entire bag as a canvas to create immersive illustrations of local flora and fauna.

I chose a bright but limited color palette to help the bags stand out from the crowd but still pair together as a collection. Based on testing, consumers wanted coffee that seemed exciting but approachable, so I made the illustrations warm and inviting while still highlighting the origin regions. I had a lot of fun learning about the wildlife from Costa Rica, Brazil, and Kenya (the antelope from Kenya is called a Mountain Bongo and they look just as cool in real life!), and I think this sense of fun carried over into the design.
